RICH TASK
This task will be displayed through student engagement with the platform Minecraft: Education Edition and showcase the theme of building a better world. This will be achieved through their personal direct impact on the tasks we have created in Minecraft and how student involvement with the tasks is correlated to minimizing climate change within the carbon cycle.
Students will enter a world on Minecraft Education that we have created to learn about the 5 main stages in the Carbon Cycle. Each stage introduces how carbon is cycled through our atmosphere and will include a task that the students will first have to finish in order to complete the cycle.
The students will be formatively assessed throughout the tasks on their abilities to recognize what each task within the carbon cycle needs to work properly within Minecraft. The students will also learn to correctly identify each stage of the cycle its impact is on the overall Carbon Cycle.
Once the students have completed their tasks of completing the carbon cycle throughout Minecraft, we will complete a summative assessment of their final work to assess if they have efficiently grasped the importance that human impact has upon the carbon cycle and how it is directly related to climate change. Students must successfully answer questions related to the topic to traverse through the maze we have created for them.
The students will then have the opportunity to build their ‘ideal’ world, considering all that they just learned about the carbon cycle and how humans affect climate change. They will be teleported into an empty green space where there will be animals, plants, and buildings that the students can add to their liking.
